As the people all over the globe become more and more dependent on credit cards as their preferred payment method, the need for reliable and efficient credit card processing capabilities have also increased and have expanded beyond the traditional wire network connection.
This resulted to the creation and the use of wireless credit card terminals. Before using wireless credit card terminals, however, it is important to first understand how they work, whether they suit the type of business you have or not and how your business can get the most benefit out of using them.
Wireless credit card terminals function similar to how wired credit card processing terminals do, except that they transmit data through a wireless connection. Basically, when the merchant swipes the credit or debit card of a customer, the magnetic stripe reader of terminal reads the information on the card and send it to the merchant account provider or the credit card processing service provider and the credit card network via a wireless data connection such as CDMA, GSM or 3G. After the credit card issuer approve the transaction, information is sent to the credit card processing service or merchant account provider to the terminal using the same secure wireless data connection, completing the credit card transaction.
There are many benefits of using wireless credit card terminals. First off, they allow merchants to conduct their business in different locations such as trade fairs, flea markets and on the road, without the need for a phone line or a broadband internet connection. They also allow merchants to give customers from rural areas or other temporary locations to have another payment option than cash even if they do not have any access to a phone or a wired connection to the internet. They can also help merchants save money on credit card processing charges and through eliminating the need to install a second phone line.
